Overcoming fear story for kids: “Bubbles”

Mumablue is a clever and happy boy. He lives with his family in a lovely little house near the beach. Mumablue loves running, jumping and blowing bubbles.

Starla is a fast and friendly turtle. On her shell she has a beautiful mark in the shape of a star. Her favorite thing is eating sweet, caramel-flavored seaweed.

Every day when he finishes school, Mumablue goes to play on the beach. He has a lot of fun collecting shells and watching the crabs walk around. They’re so funny!

Starla also goes to school. Her teacher, the wise dolphin, teaches her new things and sometimes she goes on exciting underwater expeditions with her classmates.

On hot days, Mumablue and his family stay at the beach all day. They build sandcastles, play ball and fly kites.

Starla loves having underwater swimming races with her family. Sometimes they flap their flippers for days and days without stopping.

But when the time comes to get in the water, Mumablue never leaves the shore. And when Starla’s family goes up to the beach, Starla prefers to stay in the water.

Mumablue thinks that there are terrible monsters under the sea, which he never wants to meet. And Starla believes that she will get stuck in the sand on the beach and won’t be able to move. Their friends don’t understand and have fun without them. Both of them are really scared and wouldn’t dare to even give it a try, although their families insist that nothing bad will happen.

Until, finally, one day, they get tired of missing out on the fun and decide to give it a go.

Mumablue walks down towards the sea, determined to go in. At the same time, Starla lifts her head out of the water and heads toward the shore. They keep going and going until they bump into each other on the way.

“Who are you? I’m Mumablue”.

“I’m Starla. You look very scared. What’s wrong?”

“I’m so afraid of the sea. There are terrible monsters in there”.

“That’s nonsense! The sea is fantastic! Come with me”.

The turtle guides Mumablue through the bottom of the sea and shows him its wonderful inhabitants.

“This is Coralina, the whale, who wakes us up every morning with her singing. She takes us to school on her back. This is Bobby, the Artist. He plays the trumpet better than anybody, with the drummer Squid Inkwell”.

Mumablue is absolutely fascinated. The sea is very different from what he had imagined!

“The sea is so much fun, Mumablue! That’s why I never go up to the beach. Well, also because I’m a bit scared…”

“Scared? But the beach is amazing, Starla. Come with me!”

Together, Mumablue and Starla come out of the water. They go running on the sand, they dance with the crabs and enjoy the sea breeze. Starla is no longer afraid of the beach and helps Mumablue build sandcastles. They have such a great time!

You never know the friends you could find and the places you could discover until you give it a try.

Mumablue and Starla realize that they were only scared of what they didn’t know. But now they’ve made a lifelong friendship between the sea and the shore.

And with Starla and all the marine inhabitants happy and satisfied, Mumablue says goodbye until next time.
